NEW GOVERNMENT COMMITTED TO GROW WITH PEOPLE’S TRUST – N. BIREN SINGH

Imphal, June 25, 2017 (DIPR): Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh says that the new government is committed to grow with the trust of the people of the state.

This was stated by him at an exclusive interview with the AIR/DDK Imphal at the lawn of Chief Minister’s bungalow today in connection with the attaining of first 100 days of the new government in Manipur. Chief Minister said that the new government took up the task of bridging the gap between the communities and bringing back the trust between the communities as a first priority. He expressed that without the support and trust of the people any government cannot be run for long. He continued that with the trust and support of the people, this government could bring to an end to the 139 days old economic blockade on National Highways and more than 600 days old agitation in Churachandpur District.

On a query regarding holding of ‘Peoples’ Day’ and ‘Hill Leaders’ Day’, Chief Minister said that the politicians and for that reason the government’s prime duty must be to serve the people and what the people want is the result not the speech. Reiterating that this government is committed to bring transparency and accountability in governance as well as corruption free, an Anti-Corruption Cell and a Monitoring Cell had been opened in CM’s Secretariat and Special Investigation Teams (SITs) constituted.

Regarding the issue of unemployment in the State, Chief Minister maintained that government cannot give white colour job to everyone and what the government is emphasising is to provide jobs to the youths through skill development under the Manipur Skill Development Mission. Vocational education courses will be opening in 40 colleges of the State, he continued.

Chief Minister said that in order to help the womenfolk who are the strength of the Sate the Government has launched a toll free helpline number 181. This number is not only for seeking help in connection with violence against women but also for the welfare of women. A fast track court to take up only the cases involving crimes against women is being set up, he continued. Continuing on the welfare measures for the womenfolk he said that the government is also considering to give more priority to women in education sector. If there is a central policy of giving 33 p.c. job reservation in police department, then the State government would also consider it, he added.

Maintaining that the government is doing its best to give a visible change in the state, Shri N. Biren said that if the working speed of first 100 days of the government is continued then Manipur will be among the most advanced states in the country. And the government is to follow the pace so as to fulfil as much as possible what the people of the state long for.

He also mentioned that soon after the rainy season the river embankments will be strengthenedwith RCC and all the river beds be cleaned and the constructions in the river beds be removed so as to reduce the problem of flood due to breach of embankments.

Saying that the government needs to work knowing what the people want he said that it is the media to give true image of the society as media is the mirror of the society. Expressing his happiness on the role State media is playing to uplift the society, he appealed the media to be a clean mirror so that government can see its true reflection and rectify for the good of the society.
