Imphal June 6, 2017 (DIPR): The 41ST Foundation Day of Lamka College, which was established in 1976, located at New Lamka, Churachandpur town, was observed today. The observation was organised by Lamka College Founding Day Committee.
The event was graced by Agriculture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Minister V.Hangkhanlian, the college principal Dr. M. Lokendra as Chief Guest and Functional President respectively.
Minister V.Hangkhanlian paid respect to the founder members of the college and appreciated the present principal and staff for their efforts by imparting education to the students. He also assured that the present need of the college like departments of Sociology, Geography, and Commerce would be introduced in the next session. He also said that the cabinet is going to create new staff at appropriate time after the cabinet takes decision. New disciplines and staff would be recruited in consultation with the concerned Minister.
Felicitation programme of Chief Minister would also be arranged in future at Lamka. Lamka College approach Road and other pitiable roads within the town are to be repaired & portable water to every household and medicine facilities for persons below poverty line would be given free of cost, he assured. He appealed the students to be specific in choosing subjects and try to be diligent for success in future.
Zenhang Lamka Cultural troupes showed extravaganza and colourful Paite traditional Bamboo Dance. The Minister gave away the Completion Certificate for 6 months Course in Human Rights Duties and Education to 13 students, sponsored by the UGC-NER. The Principal of the College appreciated the founder members of the college for their contribution for the development of the College through which that the College produces large number of educated persons who have joined various kinds of jobs.
Two minutes silence was observed for the memory of the departed souls of founder members.
The Minister along with Deputy Commissioner, AC to DC and SP also visited the flood victim family and handed over ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakhs on behalf of the Government of Manipur to the parents of the baby girl whose dead body was discovered yesterday. The Minister also thanked various philanthropic organisations who have been tirelessly joining the search operation throughout day and night for giving time for successful burial. The ex-gratia was given by the government as already decided. Ex-gratia for her brother was given already earlier.
On the way home, Minister and his team also visited Songgel village where more than 70 displaced persons from T.Natzang village , Ukhrul District, living there since the past few days due to some untoward incident occurred, as reported by the villagers. During the visit, 6 bags of rice, one bag of pulses, and 5 litres of oil besides Rs.20,000 in cash were given as relief materials. The Minister assured that all possible help would be provided from the higher authority for their normal living at their respective places.
During the Lamka College Day celebration, students, teaching staff and non-teaching staff ,Vice Principal and Professors of the college attended and gave encouragement speeches to the students. (DIPR)
