MINISTER TH SHYAMKUMAR INSPECTS HORTICULTURE OFFICE AT JIRIBAM

Imphal, May 7, 2017(DIPR): Forest & Environment, Horticulture & Soil Conservation Minister Th. Shyamkumar today visited horticulture office at Jiribam. The Minister accompanied by officials and media persons spoke with the officials at Jiribam regarding welfare of the office and the department. He also visited Progeny Orchard cum Nursery farm.

Minister Th. Shyamkumar also visited Borobekra Forest Beat office under Chaudhrikhal range office at Kaiserpunji which has a population of 400 mostly dominated by Hmar community. The Minister was accorded warm welcome by the locals. Minister Th. Shyamkumar also visited Lamtaikhunou which is inhabited by people with 60 different surnames. The Minister interacted with the locals including women of the area. He also visited the New Durgapur Primary School at Lamtaikhunou.

The Minister advised the villagers to plant organic food crops and vegetables for which the funds will be provided by Horticulture department. The Minister said the government will buy the organic products from the villagers and sell it to organic outlets. He also promised that his department will construct a water conservator for the villagers of Lamtaikhunou. He also asked the women of the village to set up self help groups to avail benefits from various government schemes. (DIPR)
