DANCE-DRAMA KURANGA NAYANI RELEASED

Imphal, June 6, 2017 (DIPR): Manipur Governor Dr.Najma Heptulla inaugurated a dance-drama titled Kuranga Nayani, the 39th production of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy,Imphal at Maharaja Chandrakirti Auditorium,Palace Compound today.

Chief Guest of the function, Dr.Najma Heptulla fecilitated the scriptwriter of the drama Smt.Devjani Chaliha who is also a recepient of Sangeet Natak Academi Puraskar and director Th.Chaotombi Singh.

Welcoming the spectators, Director of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy,Imphal, Shri L Opendra Sharma said that ever since theAcademy came into existence in 1954, the production wing has produced more than 38 dance dramas to its credit including Kabui Kayoiba and Sakuntala amongst others.Acknowledging that the artists of the unit are one of the best dancers in the country, he also said that World Music Day and Kang Chingba will be celebrated on June 21. The programmes of the Academy has been launched on live webcast at the oficial website www.sangeetnatak.gov.in. , he concluded.

Expressing her eagerness to watch the dance-drama, the Governor said that it was indeed exciting to witness the agony of the character Karna when she watched the dance drama tilted “Karna” in 8th December last year.It is interesting to see that the roles of Karna remained the same even if she has earlier read different versions of the epic the Mahabharata , she also said. Sharing her rich family background as the grand niece of freedom fighter &‘Bharat Ratna’ awardee,Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, she said,”I have been connected to the Sangeet Natak Academi & Lalit Kala Academi as my grandfather already founded three big academic Institutes of the country and wanted to promote Indian culture internationally.” She further said, “I find the Indian footprints from Afghanistan,Bali,Cambodia,Thailand & Malaysia. I feel proud that Indian ethos & culture could reach to far-off places and that it is our duty to spread our rich tradition to these places.Manipur although not a large state in terms of size but is indeed very big in terms of cultural heritage, art, culture & music.”

President of the releasing ceremony, Vice-Chairman of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy,Imphal, Shri Hijam Tombi said, “Ever since its completion of 63 years, the institute has made significant contribution in the promotion of traditional dance and music.Manipur is known the whole world for its strict principles and asthetics based on spiritual performance to satisfy the Gods & Goddesses and not merely to satisfy the people.There is an urgent need to develop a lecture cum demostration and documentation to know the real taste of asthetics of our dance dramas.”

Design & direction given by eminent choreographer of Manipur , Shri Th.Chaotombi Singh, Kuranga Nayani was premiered today in front of a large audience of art lovers. Lead cast of the drama include G.Chandan Devi as Kuranga Nayani and O.Jiten Singh & Y.Inaocha Singh as Bhagyachandra Maharaj and Gourashyam Maharaj repectively. Ng.Ibopishak composed the music while W.Lokendrajit Singh heads the production unit assisted by Th.Ibemubi Devi. (DIPR)
