MINISTER BISWAJIT DISCCUSSES SPINNING MILL REVIVAL AND 100 MW SOLAR PLANT WITH OFFICIALS

Imphal,4thJuly, 2017 (DIPR):Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Thongam Biswajit Singh today chaired a meeting with officials of the Commerce and Industries department at his New Secretariat Conference Hall. The meeting was also attended by officials of the Kotak Resources led by their Vice President Shri Deepak Borkar.
During the meeting, officials concerned of Commerce and Industries, MANIREDA, Handloom and Handicraft discussed certain issues including revival of the Spinning Mill, mining prospects in the State, setting up of 100 MW Solar Power Plant, setting up of cement plants and to initiate rubber plantation in the State.

Further alongwith the development of a 100 MW Solar Power Plant, they also discussed the feasibility of combining wind and solar energies for the power plant.

On the issue of reviving the Spinning Mill, Shri Biswajit expressed for generation of employment for the youth as well as produce yarn and provide yarn to the weavers of the State at cheaper rates.

Speaking to the officials of the Kotak Resources, Director Handloom and Handicraft Shri Lamlee Kamei said earlier the Spinning Mill was producing only cotton, but the government is planning to produce both cotton and synthetic yarn once the mill is revived. He continued since the mill has been closed down for quite a long time, all the machines have become scrap now.

At the end of the meeting, it was resolved that officials of the Kotak Resources will meet the State officials and discuss the finer details of all the issues discussed today.

The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary (Textile, Commerce and Industry) Shri L Lakher and Director Commerce and Industry Shri M. Luikham among others. (DIPR)
