MINISTER KARAM SHYAM URGES PEOPLE OF TAMENGLONG TO SUPPORT GOVT. IN DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES

TAMENGLONG, JUNE 29, 2017 (DIPR): Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Shri Karam Shyam in an appeal to the people of Tamenglong district said that, one must put aside personal interests and differences to help the government in developmental activities taken up for the welfare of the people. The Minister said that, the construction of FCI (Food Corporation of India) godown in the district has been delayed due to disputes in land allocation. Minister Karam Shyam was speaking during the inaugural function on Wednesday (June 28, 2017) of a 40-bedded girls’ hostel at CMES (Christian Model English School) Complex, Tamenglong. FCI has already given sanction for construction of a 5,000 MT (metric tonne) godownand the process for finalising the construction agency is completed. He urged to the concerned people to settle the land issue at the earliest and cooperate with the government in the completion of the godownconstruction at the earliest.

The Minister speaking further said that, as a representative of the State government, he will put maximum pressure to the Chief Minister to improve the road connectivity in the district. He said that the instruction of the Hon’ble Chief Minister to all the representative of the State government to go to the hills is to ascertain the needs of the people and address their grievances. He also said that the new government is determined to reach out to people to bring them closer and urged the people of Tamenglong to meet the Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers and Government Officials on the 10th and 15th day of every month and voice their needs and grievances. He said development of the hill areas is essential as the Hills constitute 90% of the geographical area, adding that the present government is in support of a topographical and needs based budget. Minister Karam Shyam said the State can become economically developed if the land resources and the human resource are properly managed. Minister KaramShyamassured to the people that the memorandums submitted to him will be forward to the concern Ministers.

Speaking during the function, Shri Samuel Jendai, MLA of Tamenglong Assembly Constituency said he is happy that the present government feels the pulse and needs of the people of the area. He also expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister for including the completion and inauguration of the girl’s hostel in Government’s 100 Days programme. He requested Minister Karam Shyam to convince the Hon’ble Chief Minister to give his attention towards development of the district. Samuel Jendai also cautioned the people of his constituency that illegal encroachment in the district can become a huge issue in the future.

The hostel is constructed under the 11th Multi-sectoral Development Programme, MsDP (2012-16) under the funding of Ministry of Minority Affairs. The Minister also inaugurated 50-bedded Girls Hostel of ITI (Industrial Training Institute) at Tamenglong which is built under MsDP, 2011-2012. The 50-bedded Girls Hostel of ITI will have a Board of Director headed by Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong to oversee the affairs of the hostel. Minister Karam Shyam said the hostel will immensely help the girl students coming from Tousem and Nungba and advised the hostel management members for full utilisation of the hostel.Also attending the function were Armstrong Pame, Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong, police officials and people of the district.
