MINISTER SHYAMKUMAR WELCOMES BENGALURU STUDENTS

IMPHAL, JUNE 27, 2017 (DIPR): Shri Shyamkumar, Minister for MAHUD and Forests & Environment today welcomed two students from Bengaluru (Karnataka), who arrived in Imphal on a mission with the theme “National Campaign on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Girl Child Abortion”. The students are carrying out the mission in connection with the ‘Swacch Bharat Abhiyan’ launched by the Central Government.

Sumant Kote and S. Gopi , students from Bengaluru, Karnataka reached Imphal today on motor-bike from the Southern city, they will also visit other North Eastern states and other parts of the country. Corporator Vijay Kumar from Bengaluru are supporting them in their mission.

Speaking to the media-persons at his office in New Secretariat, Minister Shyamkumar said, the mission would help in spreading the message of oneness of the nation and create awareness to stop killing of girl child before birth. Wishing the team a success in their endeavour, Minister Shyamkumar said, the mission would also help in spreading awareness of cleanliness.

‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ was launched by Prime Minister by Shri Narendra Modi on October 2, 2014 with an objective to eliminate open defecation through the construction of individual, cluster and community toilets. The government is aiming to achieve anopen-defecationfree India by October 2, 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. (DIPR)
