IMPHAL, MAY 23, 2017(DIPR): Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Shri Karam Shyam appealed to the people not to indulge in panic buying of petrol and diesel.
Speaking to mediapersons at his office at Secretariat South Block, Minister Karam Shyam said that, following the landslide report in Kohima, petrol pumps have witnessed many consumers indulging in panic buying in the State. Informing the media that the landslide area has been partially repaired, Minister Karam Shyam said that, after the initial repairing of the landslide area, 70 vehicles carrying petroleum products have crossed Manipur border.
A meeting was held today with the IOC (Indian Oil Corporation) officials at the office chamber of the Minister, where the IOC officials gave report that there was enough fuel stock available in the State. According to the IOC officials report the State has stock of 7 days of petrol, 17 days of diesel, 2 days of LPG and 18 days of aviation fuel in IOC Malom Oil depot.
Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Shri Karam Shyam, who is also the Revenue Minister also held a meeting with the Deputy Commissioners of the valley districts regarding stricter enforcement of Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014. The Minister said that, despite the implementation of the Act, many paddy fields are still being converted into homestead land. He said instructions have been given to the concern officials to conduct a survey and submit a report. Necessary action will be taken against those who have violated the Act, he added.
Expressing concern over the failure to collect income from land revenue in an efficient manner, the Minister said that, door to door collection of land revenue will be soon initiated in the State. He said the land tax for urban areas is Rs 20 (twenty) and Rs 10 (ten) for rural areas which need to be revised in tune with time. He said he will consult with the concern officials to revise the existing land tax rate of 2002. (DIPR)
