IMPHAL, 13th June, 2017 (DIPR): Education, Labour & Employment Minister Shri Th.Radheshyam launched today B.A. Manipuri textbooks(Meetei Mayek) on an e-book format at the inaugural function of the 10-day Meetei Mayek orientation programme for college teachers who teaches Manipuri organised by the Directorate of Language Planning and Implementation ,Government of Manipur at D.M. College of Arts.

Th.Radheshyam highlighting the power of language said it was a real step towards the concept to work paperless. He also elaborated on the importance of setting up a Meetei Mayek Translation Unit that can translate the Manipuri novels and early written records and hence make it reachable to the masses.

Pointing out English language as a lingua-franca of the world as a very accommodative and adjustable by dint of which the British always have the cutting edge, he remarked that we need to develop our language and teach it during early years of life.

Sharing his opinion to the gathering, K Robindro expressed, “Although I have stayed far away from Meetei Mayek language and even find Bengali script difficult to comprehend due to my early years at hostel where no Manipuri subject was taught, I feel that we should include this language in every school to such an extent that experts from other countries may even be interested to conduct research in our language.”

Stating that an earlier workshop on Meetei Mayek was conducted on January 23-24 of this year, Kh.Sarangajit said that the present workshop is also of utmost importance as the teachers are not well acquainted with Meetei Mayek and find it a great handicap while delivering lectures to the students and interacting with them.

Stressing on the urgent need for conducting the orientation programme for promoting Meetei Mayek, Dr.L Mahabir said that inspite of the not so up-to-date infrastructure of the college, the teachers are performing their duties well by giving their whole-hearted dedication to their assigned tasks. He further stated that out of a total of 200 books of BA to be launched, only 28 books have been successfully launched at present. He reminded that the website of the office dlpi.manipur.gov.in is available 24X7 so that everyone can access it.

Education, Labour & Employment Minister Shri Th.Radheshyam, Parliamentary Secretary Education Shri K Robindro, Principal D.M. College of Arts Shri Kh.
