MAYANG IMPHAL NEW WATER SUPPLY SCHEME TO BE OPERATIONAL BY DECEMBER

Imphal, May 29, 2017 (DIPR): MAHUD Minister Shri Thounaojam Shyamkumar inspected the market complex and under construction new water supply scheme in Mayang Imphal Assembly Constituency, Imphal West, today.

He was accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary (Education and YAS) Shri Kongkham Robindro Singh, also the MLA of Mayang Imphal Assembly Constituency; officials and councillors of Mayang Imphal Municipal Council; officials of PHED, Imphal West Division and local residents.

Speaking to the mediapersons, Minister Shyamkumar said that, North Eastern Council (NEC), Government of India sanctioned the fund last year for the construction of the Mayang Imphal market complex which will be done under the aegis of Mayang Imphal Municipal Council. He promised that construction work will start soon.

Minister Shyamkumar said that, until the completion of the market complex, a temporary market shed will be constructed soon for the existing women vendors, including public toilet. He further said that, the MAHUD Department will consult the local MLA, IMC Chairperson and councillors for the purpose.

He said that, the MAHUD Department sanctioned Rs 23 crore (twenty three crore) for the water supply scheme under the funding of the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India. Informing that the Centre has released nearly Rs 9 crore (nine crore) till date, the Minister assured to release the State share soon.

Minister Shyamkumar said that, the government targets to provide drinking water to the residents of Mayang Imphal Assembly Constituency by December this year. Minister Shyamkumar hoped that the implementing agency PHED, Imphal West Division and concerned contractors will work to complete the project on time.

Parliamentary Secretary and local MLA, Kongkham Robindro Singh said that, the water supply scheme in Sapam is unable to provide drinking water facility to thepopulation of 13 wards covered by the Mayang Imphal Municipal Council. Hoping that the project will meet the December deadline, Robindro Singh said that, he will personally inspect the work progress every week and give report to the Minister. (DIPR)
